Dedicated to supporting the fine and performing arts in Moorestown Township Public Schools and throughout the entire community, MoorArts hosts a variety of programs and events throughout the year. The organization will be holding its third bi-annual gala, “An Evening of Performing and Fine Art,” on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Community House.

Making this night particularly special, the event will be the first large public event to take place since the Community House’s restoration began after a fire in November 2015. According to Candace Coleman, a MoorArts’ communications trustee, the newly appointed building is grander than ever, and remains a jewel in the center of Moorestown.

“This event will appeal to anyone who has an interest in the arts. Whether you enjoy live entertainment, including singing and comedy, or are drawn to galleries to explore and collect art,” Coleman said. “There will be something for everyone — from first-time buyers to seasoned collectors, or simply for those who want to support the arts in our community — this event is for you!”

Additionally, the gala, which will be organized and run by MoorArts trustees and volunteers, will host a variety of professional entertainers from the Moorestown area. It will also introduce 20 local artists who will exhibit and sell their work. The scope of this event is unique in that, while many events offer entertainment, the MoorArts Gala will present an array of both fine and performing art by local artists.

Participating artists will include Sarah L. Armstrong, Amy Barton, Daniel Begg, Linda Burns, Renee Egan, Tom Gaines, Jeff Gola, Catherine Hipple, Neal Hughes, Judith Karten, Catherine Kuzma, Deborah Moss Marris, Marsia Mason, Geoffrey McClain, Schuyler McClain, Brenda McCue, Jim Militello, Bob Minnick, Mark Natale, Linda Ramsay, Tom Sheckels and Ira Stark.

Coleman explained this event is fitting because the arts scene in Moorestown is very vibrant, and is becoming increasingly more well-known. She said through the Perkins Center for the Arts, Moorestown Theater Company, Parks & Recreation arts programming, MoorArts and numerous other arts organizations, the arts are continuing to play a large part in making Moorestown exceptional.

“Our goal is to showcase the breadth of creativity that exists in our community and nearby areas, and to give gala guests the chance to experience the best in fine and performing art without leaving Moorestown,” Coleman said.

All proceeds from MoorArts events will be used to support arts-based teacher grants and student scholarships. As an all-volunteer organization, this event is ultimately designed to be a “labor of love.”

“We really want this to be a very special and anticipated event that alternates years with our other larger productions and events,” Coleman said. “Our focus remains to showcase fine and performing arts in an array of venues for different age levels year-round, and to support the arts in our schools and throughout the community.”

Aside from the actual event, an online sale of all the artwork from the gala began on Saturday, Jan. 21 and will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 4. To access the online sale, visit MoorArts’ website, www.MoorArts.org. Additionally, all artwork purchased online will be delivered and installed free of charge.
