AAA announces annual essay contest for local high school seniors

This contest is open to high school seniors living or attending school in Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester or Salem counties.

AAA South Jersey is sponsoring its annual essay contest for high school seniors living in or attending school in Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester or Salem counties. The winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship toward a two-or-four year accredited educational institution. Every student who enters the contest will receive a free, one-year AAA Basic Student Membership.

Entry forms are available at AAA South Jersey offices in Voorhees, Sewell, Mullica Hill and Millville. Students can also download the entry form at www.AAA.com/scholarship. The deadline for entries to be received by AAA South Jersey is March 31.

For the contest, students are required to write an essay of between 500 and 1,000 words in response to the question:

A study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety discovered that drivers needed up to 27 seconds to fully restore their mental focus on driving after ending a call or texting from voice-controlled systems in their cars. What do you think is the most distracting feature available in cars today, and how could that feature be less of a distraction?

This marks the 11th year AAA South Jersey has sponsored the scholarship program.

“We are excited to once again give a deserving student the opportunity to advance their education,” said David Antrilli, CEO of AAA South Jersey. “For more than 10 years, we have been extremely proud to assist a deserving young man or woman from South Jersey in their pursuit of a college degree. This year’s contest challenges students to take an introspective look at their driving habits and the use of their phones while in their car. We expect this year’s question to generate some very intelligent and thoughtful responses from area students.”
