Happenings at the Medford Library Association

The MLA shares some of the events going on this month.

Summer vacation is over. For teachers and students, that means back to school and homework. For others, it means football and soccer and band practices. For still others, it means the impending start of the brilliance of fall.

Are you still wondering about the Cloud and how it works? The Pinelands library has not one, but two classes upcoming to help you with the Cloud and how it works, no matter what device you may have. Get a hands-on demonstration of a service you may have and not even know about. A class in Microsoft OneDrive basics will be on Sept. 20 and 2 p.m. Please bring your laptop or tablet and know your Microsoft, Outlook or Hotmail address and password. The class on Google Drive will be on Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. Please bring your laptop or tablet. You must have a Gmail account and know your password.

Our Paws to Read program is back with Muffie, a loveable Pug mix and a registered therapy dog. Our current session on Sept. 22 is full, but call the library to have your child put on the wait list. Reading to dogs has been shown to increase literacy and boost confidence in children.

Full STEAM Ahead will be on Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. Encourage your child’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Kids from 5 to 12 can play and experiment with a variety of interesting gadgets.

The library is offering two different sessions on Medicare and You. You will learn how Medicare works, your rights and entitlements and what benefits you may qualify for. The difference between Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage will be discussed. The session on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. will be led by Anthony Williams, and the session on Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. will be led by John Billetdoux. These programs are for educational purposes only.

Our October Family Movie Night is on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. with a showing of “Hocus Pocus.” After three centuries, three witch sisters are resurrected in Salem on Halloween night. Wear your jammies and bring your blanket and snacks to get comfy and watch this iconic Halloween movie.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and watch out for children walking or riding bikes to school and congestion on the roads from all those school busses.
