Letters from the library

Check out the holiday activities going on at Pinelands Branch Library.

The winter weather is finally upon us and preparations for the December holidays are in full swing. For some, the holiday is past and for others the anticipation is still building. Either way, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!

To help relieve the holiday stress, our “Gentle Yoga for Adults” event will continue on Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. This will be a slower paced, comfortable, nurturing yoga experience with lots of stretching, breathing exercises and deep relaxation. Yoga gently improves posture, balance, flexibility and strength. There will be lots of stretching and breathing exercises designed for relaxation. Please bring a yoga mat or large towel.

Our “Talk up a Storm — ESL Conversation” group will be meeting twice in December, on Dec. 12 and Dec. 26 at 6 p.m. This group provides an opportunity to practice English with other non-native speakers. The group is facilitated by Mary Mansfield and covers topics used in everyday conversation.

You have purchased all your gifts and now what? You have all that wrapping ahead and want everything under the tree to be picture perfect, but you tend to be all thumbs with paper and bows. Stop by the library on Monday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. to learn a few tricks for making your wrapping easier, neater and much less stress inducing. Wrapping, tape, and ribbon will be provided, but we’ll only help you with two gifts you bring along that night. For those procrastinators who wait until the last minute, the class will be repeated on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m.

Our children’s “Snowflake Make-N-Take” craft will be offered the week of Dec. 17 to Dec. 21 all day while supplies last.

On the subject of snowflakes, for our older guests ages 12 to 18, on Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. the Coding Club will be making 3D snowflakes on our MakerBot printer. Beginners are welcome; no previous coding experience required. Space is limited, but if you would like to bring your own laptop please make a note in the registration form.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and stay warm — maybe even settle in for a long winter’s nap.
