History to come alive during Country Day at Kirby’s Mill

The Medford Historical Society is sponsoring “Country Day at Kirby’s Mill” on Sunday, July 13 from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Visitors can tour the historic Kirby’s Mill, housing the Medford Historical Society’s museum collection. The museum gift shop will also be open.

There will be black powder rifle demonstrations and a presentation of Civil War camp life by members of the 12th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. Crafters at work will include broommaker Sam Moyer of Mt. Laurel; basketmaker Inger Bullock of Westhampton, decoy carver Ray Nyman of Marlton, along with others. The Blacksmith Shop will be operated by Rick Young and working antique engines are powered-up by Coles Roberts of Southampton.

The society’s collection of historic wagons and buggies will be on display. An antique hand printing press in the print shop exhibit will be demonstrated, while members of the South Jersey Guild of Spinners and Weavers will apply their craft on an antique loom. Other exhibits include a working demonstration of the big wheel lathe in the cabinet-maker’s shop. The barn will be open for a preview of the farm museum exhibition progress.

Admission is free. Refreshments of beverages ice cold watermelon and hot dogs will be available.
