Burlington County College continues its long tradition of earning its military-friendly reputation with recognition as a “Top School” in the December issue of Military Advanced Education.
MAE’s 2015 Guide to Colleges and Universities measures best practices in military and veteran education and is available online at mae-kmi.com.
“From Burlington County College’s very beginning, we have been committed to supporting our service members,” said BCC Interim President Dr. David Spang. “We make a continuous effort to ensure educational opportunities are available to men and women in uniform who make sacrifices every day.”
Since the early 1970s, BCC has had a dedicated office to provide assistance to military students and a presence on the nearby Joint Base McGuire-Dix Lakehurst. Today, BCC offers more educational programs than any other school on the base. In addition, members of the military, national guard reserve, veterans and their dependents taking credit courses at BCC pay in-county tuition rates, regardless of their physical location, allowing them to complete their degree at the same price from anywhere in the world.
“Burlington County College is one example of exceptional service to veterans in Burlington County,” said Burlington County Freeholder Bruce Garganio. “Everyone in our county appreciates the sacrifice our heroes and their families have made for us and supports anything we can do to serve them.”
According to the MAE publication, each institution, including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year and two-year colleges, was evaluated on its military culture, financial aid, flexibility, on-campus support and online support services.
“We believe the guide serves as an invaluable tool for both education services officers and transition officers when advising service members about their educational opportunities,” said Kelly Fodel, MAE’s editor. “We used strict criteria to individually evaluate the submissions of respondents, and we had a record number of schools participating this year.”
The guide helps arm students with information about institutions that go out of their way to give back to service members.
“The military-friendly distinctions earned by Burlington County College are a testament to the efforts of our faculty, staff and administration, many of whom have served themselves,” said BCC director of military education and veterans services Christine Ulch. “This honor from the MAE publication and our Military Friendly School designation for 2015 in G.I. Jobs magazine, earned earlier this year, are representative of BCC’s college-wide commitment to serving veterans.”
