The Medford Friends Meeting (Quakers) are hosting a Memorial to the Lost on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 14 Union St. The memorial will remain on-site until Saturday, Oct. 1.
At this event, the front lawn of Medford’s Quaker Meetinghouse will display a veritable “forest” of mounted t-shirts, each inscribed with the name, age and death date of a gun violence victim. Standing in rows, the shirts will form a graphic representation of gun violence carnage here and across the nation.
Medford Friends Meeting is collaborating with Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence (HGC) a faith-based, non-profit movement headquartered in Philadelphia. Several faith groups have mounted the memorial in the Delaware Valley region.
This event shares the Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence mission: to “increase the awareness of the tragic toll exacted by gun violence.” The goal is to bring greater awareness to South Jersey and to encourage more Quaker meetings, churches and faith groups to host the Memorial and carry the message across the region.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this event, especially seeing as gun carnage is a national tragedy, taking an average of more than 30,000 lives nationally each year.
At the event, some on-site parking will be available, as well as street parking and more municipal parking across Union Street.
