Evesham residents reminded to ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ this New Year’s Eve

If law enforcement pulls someone over for drunk driving, they will be arrested.

With the end of the year upon Evesham Township, local police continue to take part in the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which is comprised of thousands of traffic safety partners joining together to protect citizens from the deadly crime of driving while drunk.

The ETPD has this warning: Those who drive drunk not only put their life and the lives of others at risk, they could face a DUI arrest.

According to police, average DUI costs $10,000, making it difficult to recover financially.

Arrested drunk drivers face jail time, the loss of their driver licenses, higher insurance rates, and dozens of other unanticipated expenses from attorney fees, fines and court costs, car towing and repairs, lost time at work, etc.

Police say drivers can avoid drunk driving altogether with these steps:

  • Plan a safe way home before the fun begins
  • Before drinking, designate a sober driver
  • If impaired, utilize the Evesham Saving Lives Program, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation to get home safely.
  • If someone notices a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to report the incident to the ETPD or 911.
  • Remember, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. If someone is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to safely get to where they are going.

Whether someone has had way too many or just one too many, it’s never worth the risk to drive impaired. There’s always another way home. If law enforcement pulls someone over for drunk driving, they will be arrested.
