Rowan College at Burlington County student Stephanie Berdugo-Hernandez has been selected to serve on the 2018–2019 Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) Student Advisory Committee.

“It’s great to see that one of RCBC’s students was chosen to serve on this committee and have a voice in matters concerning college financing,” said RCBC Acting President Michael Cioce. “Stephanie is a terrific student leader who represents her peers very well on this state panel and on campus as president of the Equal Opportunity Fund (EOF) club, member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and one of the first students to take advantage of our 3+1 program.”

Berdugo-Hernandez, a graduate of the Burlington County Institute of Technology in Medford, is a current RCBC 3+1 student majoring in biology with hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon. This is Stephanie’s second year serving on this committee and plans to run for the committee chair again. She was nominated to be a part of the committee by RCBC EOF Director Edith Corbin.

“As an EOF student, I think that it is important for the students to be more aware of the entire financial aid process,” Berdugo-Hernandez said. “I want to help others raise awareness of the state funding and be a voice for each student.”

The Student Advisory Committee was created by the Legislature to have effective communication between students and HESAA. The committee is comprised of nine members, including two from community colleges, who discuss and provide feedback to HESAA staff on policies and regulations governing state student financial aid programs.
