Marlton, get out your blue ribbons

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and Riverside Police Chief Paul Tursi today announced that blue ribbons are available to members of the public this week as part of a nationwide effort to honor law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

The initiative, dubbed the “Blue Ribbon Campaign,” is held in conjunction with National Police Week, which began Sunday May 15.

The Prosecutor’s Office and the Burlington County Police Chiefs’ Association, of which Chief Tursi is president, are spearheading the effort in Burlington County. The campaign is funded each year by Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. (C.O.P.S.), which has distributed more than 1,000,000 ribbons nationwide.

Citizens are encouraged to tie a blue ribbon to the antenna or door handle of their vehicle. These blue ribbons are intended to be a reminder of law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice and also to show support for the men and women in blue.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office has made ribbons available to Burlington County municipal police departments. Members of the public who wish to show their support should contact their local police department to receive a ribbon. The ribbons are also available at the BCPO and the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department.

Thousands of blue ribbons flew on Sunday May 15, during the National Peace Officers Memorial Day Service in Washington D.C. The ceremony honored and remembered law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2010.
