Ten years ago the twin towers came down during the most brazen terroristic attack this country has even seen. Everyone throughout the country will recognize the 10th anniversary of 9–11 and local representatives are calling for a 10th anniversary remembrance.
The township will host a 10th anniversary remembrance of the 9–11 attacks on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. in the Lenape Performing Arts Center. Municipal leaders, the Leroy Homer Foundation, and state leaders will be in attendance to honor those who gave their lives during the attack.

A parade of flags will welcome visitors to the event, Vandenberg said. Sandra Horner, president of the Rotary Club of Evesham, will welcome residents as well and leader visitors in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Later, the rotary club will make a presentation to the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation. According to representatives, the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation was founded in 2002, in memory of LeRoy Homer, First Officer of United Airlines #93 when it crashed in Shanksville, Pa. on Sept. 11, 2001.
The mission of The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation is to encourage and support young adults who wish to pursue careers as professional pilots, according to representatives. In addition, the foundation promotes awareness about aviation careers to disadvantaged youth. 13 scholarships have been awarded since the foundation started and all 13 have received their private pilot licenses.
“We felt it was important to be there to support the community. Marlton is the hometown of Leroy and the community has been very supportive of the event. It’s a great opportunity to be part of something big,” said Jane Oswari, vice president of the foundation. “Our foundation started in 2002, it’s been nine years since we’ve been in existence. It will be important to be there.”
Sen. Dawn Marie Addiego will make several remarks and then give way to Msgr. Rich LaVarghetta as the featured speaker for the event.
The Yellow Ribbon Club will honor those who have returned to the township and Deputy Mayor Joe Howarth will thank those who helped put the day together and make the remembrance possible.
The day will end with a benediction, the singing of “God Bless America,” and then a recessional parade of flags, Vandenberg said.
