Celebrate National Library Week at the Burlington County Library System

The Burlington County Library System invites the public to join in the nationwide celebration of the dynamic changes happening in today’s libraries during National Library Week, which this year takes place from now to April 16.

Initiated in 1958 and sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country, National Library Week is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians, and to promote library use and support.

This year’s theme is “Libraries Transform” and BCLS is calling on all library lovers to join in the celebration by creating “Because Statements” expressing why libraries matter in their communities. Share your statements and/or photos by posting them on Twitter, Instagram, or the “I Love Libraries” Facebook Page. Be sure to include the word “Because” and the hashtags #LibrariesTransform and #NLW16

Library fans are also invited to stop by their local BCLS branches to pick up special “Because” speech bubble cards to fill out and post online. Creativity is encouraged.

More than just places of quiet study, today’s libraries are evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve. They offer space for creative and engaging collaboration using new technologies, sites to see a 3D printer in action, and inviting environments to relax.

BCLS, which includes the Burlington County Library in Westampton and branches in Bordentown, Cinnaminson, Evesham, Maple Shade, Pemberton, Medford and Riverton, also continues to evolve to provide new opportunities for learning, growth and personal development.

BCLS offers access to nearly one million books, DVDs, CDs, periodicals, online databases, ebooks, audio ebooks, and more. The library system also hosts a wide assortment of programs each year for adults, teens and children, including: computer and business classes; indoor movies and performances; instruction in leisure time pursuits such as knitting, yoga, and crafts; video and board games; special needs programming; book clubs; and other activities.
