Do Something: Dog show, Philadelphia Home Show taking place this weekend

Residents can catch a film at Temple Beth Sholom or attend The King’s Christian School’s open house.

The winter weather shouldn’t keep you inside this weekend. From a dog show in Wildwood to Winterfest Brewfest in Philadelphia, there are plenty of activities taking place for people of all ages. Check out some of the latest events for the weekend below:

In Marlton

  • Kids ages 9 to 14 can put their basketball skills to the test in the Knights of Columbus, Father John P. Wessel, Council No. 6530 and Kateri Takakwitha, Council No. 12229 Free Throw Championship on Saturday. The event will take place beginning at 1 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc gym, 100 Willow Bend Road in Marlton. Around South Jersey

  • Temple Beth Sholom in Cherry Hill Hazak will kick off its winter series of Sunday afternoon movies this weekend. The first film, “Aaron Copeland and the American Sound”,” will be screened beginning at 2 p.m. at Temple Beth Sholom, 1901 Kresson Road in Cherry Hill. The movie will explore the life and music of Aaron Copeland. Tickets are $10 at the door. Refreshments will be served. Call Thelma Hilibrand at (856) 795–3682 for more information.
  • Parents who are thinking about sending their children to The King’s Christian School at 5 Carnegie Plaza in Cherry Hill can visit the school’s open house on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. There will free refreshments, a question and answer session and a tour of the facilities.   • On Jan. 22 locals can help celebrate the recent birthday of Mt. Laurel native and suffragist Alice Paul, born more than 130 years ago in January of 1885. The Alice Paul Institute (API) will be showing the new documentary about the continued fight for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) entitled “Equal Means Equal” by director and activist Kamala Lopez at the Moorestown Friends Meetinghouse, 118 East Main Street, Moorestown, from 2 to 4 p.m.

At the Jersey Shore

  • Wildwood will go to the dogs this weekend as the Boardwalk Kennel Club of Cape May County presents its All Breed Dog Show at the Wildwoods Convention Center. The show runs all weekend and features a best of breed competition, police K9 unit demonstration, obedience and rally trials and more. Competition begins on Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $2 for kids 12 and under. In Philadelphia

  • The Philadelphia Home Show will take over the Pennsylvania Convention Center this weekend. More than 300 exhibitors and experts will be on hand to help guests make various improvements to their homes. Tickets can be purchased online for a discounted price of $3.   • The third annual Winterfest Brewfest will take over Penn’s Landing this weekend as visitors have a chance to enjoy some tasty brews and ice skating. On Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m., try out beer samples from a variety of area breweries. The event is pay as you go.   • Celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday with a special celebration at the Penn Museum. The museum will celebrate the new year from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Asian film screenings, martial arts demonstrations, zodiac gallery tours, a grand finale lion dance and a parade.
