Cherry Hill schools expected to receive additional state aid money
Reform in school funding could result in Cherry Hill Public Schools receiving a significant increase in state aid. According to estimated state aid figures from the New Jersey Office of Legislative Services, Cherry Hill Public Schools could receive an increase of about $3.1 million in state aid this year, 22 percent more than what it received last year. The increase is pending Gov. Phil Murphy signing the bill into law.
Cherry Hill teen looking to raise awareness about mental health as ambassador for nonprofit
Olivia McMullen is making it her mission in life to raise awareness about mental illness. At age 15, McMullen was recently named as the first ever Miss Worldwide Teen New Jersey Ambassador for Live Out Loud Charity, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting suicide prevention, anti-bullying measures and core character development. McMullen will be inducted as an ambassador in August.
“The Addams Family” a true family production for Cherry Hill actors
Mainstage Center for the Arts’ production of “The Addams Family” has a distinct Cherry Hill flavor. The show includes more than dozen local residents who are either acting or part of the production crew. The local connections go even further as a mother-son duo is also performing together in the show. Some of the Cherry Hill residents involved with the show spoke to The Sun prior to a rehearsal last week.
Cherry Hill Public Schools still waiting for response from state on referendum projects
Cherry Hill Public Schools’ referendum process is on hold at the moment as the district is still waiting to receive information from the New Jersey Department of Education on its project applications. During a short update at last week’s board of education meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Business Lynn Shugars said the district is still waiting on a response from the state even though the deadline for New Jersey to respond to the district had passed on July 4.
Cherry Hill man indicted for abandoning heroin overdose victim
A Burlington County Grand Jury has indicted a Cherry Hill man for leaving a heroin overdose victim. Peter Baron Jr., 35, was indicted on one, third degree county of endangering another person. According to investigators, Baron carried the victim from a car and placed him inside the foyer of a home on Bartram Road in Evesham just after 11 a.m. on Oct. 17, 2017. He then fled the scene without calling emergency personnel.
