Your junk, my treasure at fall yard sale

Moorestown’s fall, town-wide yard sale is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, rain or shine.

Participants can decide what to sell and what will be their opening and closing times. Sellers are encouraged to register so their location can be placed on a map for buyers.

“You have an avenue to get rid of a lot of stuff that’s been cluttered around,” said Chris Salvatico, board member of Sustainable Moorestown, whose mission is to promote the economic vitality, social equity and environmental quality of the township.

“People have been able to meet other people that live in the township, so there’s been a lot of different types of communication between different people.”

The township started holding the event in 2016. Because of COVID, the 2020 sale had to be canceled, but residents asked for one in the fall, so the first yard sale of that season was held the same year. Since then, the sales have been in both spring and fall. From 2017 to now, a total of 1,145 households have participated in the event, not including the fall sale.

“I think it helps support what Sustainable Moorestown is all about,” Salvatico explained. “Normally you have your ‘reduce,’ your ‘reuse’ and your ‘recycle,’ but this clearly fits the ‘reuse’ portion, where my junk might be your treasure.”

“Rather than stuff being just tossed into a dumpster or ending up in somebody’s basement for 20 years, somebody else might be able to use it.”

If you’re interested in participating, register your sale location at www.sustainablemoorestown.org or visit Sustainable Moorestown’s Facebook page.

The township will also hold its inaugural Electric Vehicle Festival and Green Fair at the Moorestown Town Green, West Second Street, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. That event, presented by Sustainable Moorestown, will also be held rain or shine.

“A lot of people that moved to Moorestown and live in Moorestown like that hometown feeling, and I think when we have these different events where everybody can come together and meet and greet and have a party, and (can) just have this unity that you don’t find in other areas,” Salvatico said.
