To mark the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Cherry Hill Township has partnered with the Cherry Hill Fire and Police Departments to erect a permanent memorial outside the Fire Administration Building on Marlkress Road.
The memorial, designed by a Cherry Hill firefighter, features two granite towers set in a Pentagon-shaped base. The towers will be connected by a piece of I-Beam from the World Trade Center’s north tower. The monument will be designated in a special ceremony the morning of Sept. 11, 2011.
“This memorial will serve as a heartfelt addition to our community’s landscape that will forever memorialize the events and losses of that day,” Mayor Bernie Platt said. “Please join us as we begin our final push in constructing this beautiful place of reflection that all of Cherry Hill will soon be able to appreciate.”
In order to make these plans a reality, the township has been raising funds from within the community. Tonight, residents can stop by one local business to support the 9/11 Memorial.
