Around Berlin

  • Step back into yesteryear with a Yuletide twist. For the second year, the Downtown Berlin Revitalization Corp is hosting the Long-A-Coming Historic Holiday Tour on Dec. 9, featuring 24 points of significance scattered throughout the borough’s downtown district. Encompassing both a trolley tour and self tour, the route incarnates Camden County history, revealing the rich narratives concentrated right here in Berlin.From New Jersey’s oldest railroad station to the Vault History at Victor Records, the tour supports the DBRC’s preservation arts initiative. By conserving the past, the organization strives to foster an innovative vision for the district’s future, establishing creative retail, eateries, the arts and outdoor living. Set to the sounds of St. Nicolas Aurora Carolers, the various points of interest range from exhibits to ride-bys. The route is populated with decorated window displays, vintage toy displays and miniature train villages — to name a few. Horse-drawn carriage rides and samples of holiday treats will greet you along the way. The tour, which runs from 3 to 8 p.m., starts at Village Square, 59 S. White Horse Pike, Berlin. Following the tour, the Holidays Through the Decades performance will take place at the Vault from 8 to 9: 30 p.m. Tickets, which cost $15 per person, support the DBRC. Around South Jersey

  • On Saturday, the Gloucester Township Recreation Department is hosting a brunch with Santa at 80 Broadacres Drive, Clementon, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is free. Enjoy bagels, donuts, refreshments and games. Attendees are encouraged to bring their cameras to take photos with Santa. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child in need. An adult must accompany children.
  • Sunday is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Veterans Park, located at 1261 Chews Landing Road, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Mainstage’s Encore show choir.
  • From Friday Dec. 8 to Sunday, Dec. 10, Veterans Park will transform into a yuletide carnival, as Gloucester Township hosts free holiday carousel rides. On Dec. 9, rides will run from at 5 to 8 p.m. On Dec. 10, rides will run from noon to 8 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 10, rides will run from 1 to 9 p.m.
  • Congregation Beth El is hosting a Casino Royale night on Saturday from 7 to 9p.m., located at 8000 Main Street in Voorhees, NJ.This event will feature an open bar, games of chance, bingo, awesome prizes, horse racing and more.The congregation will have the following items for live auction — scotch tasting with Rabbi Aaron Krupnick, sushi making with Hazzan Alisa Pomerantz-Boro, axe throwing with Rabbi Andy Green, bottle of pappy Van Winkle, Jay Roberts Jewelers Diamond Necklace and Flyers tickets with a team autographed hockey stick.
  • For the past three decades, the Voorhees Ballet Theatre has produced its annual rendition of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.”Its 30th annual show, which has blossomed into a signature seasonal event in South Jersey, will be performed Friday, Dec. 8 to Sunday, Dec. 10 at VMS, including a Sugar Plum Fairy Tea on Saturday, Dec. 9. Voorhees Ballet Theatre’s “The Nutcracker” will run on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at Voorhees Middle School, located at 1000 Holly Oak Drive, Voorhees.   • The Ashley Paul Memorial Foundation is hosting an “Ugly Sweater Beef and Beer” on Saturday at the Lindenwold Moose Lodge, located at 2425 White Horse Pike. The event begins at 7 p.m.The cost is $25 per ticket or $20 per ticket, if you bring a toy that will be donated to children in need.   • ChildrenSong will host its main holiday concert on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 401 N. Kings Highway in Cherry Hill. ChildrenSong’s holiday concerts celebrate the season and spread the joy of holiday singing. ChildrenSong’s concert programs include a sing-along portion at the end of every program.   • Support Cherry Hill Youth Cheerleading and meet Santa Claus at the same time on Saturday. CHYC is hosting Breakfast with Santa at the Applebee’s in Cherry Hill from 8 to 10 a.m. Guests can enjoy pictures with Santa, games, baskets and raffles. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Children 2 and under are admitted for free. Proceeds will support Cherry Hill Youth Cheerleading.
  • The James G. Atkinson Old Stone House Village will be decked out for the holidays on Saturday as the Washington Township Historical Commission hosts The Magic of Christmas. The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the village, 208 Egg Harbor Road, in Sewell. The event will include Christmas music, readings of the Polar Express, a tree lighting ceremony and bake sale. Kids can also mail a letter to Santa at the event.   • Community members can also get into the Christmas spirit in Mt. Laurel, as Fellowship Community Church hosts the second weekend of Living Nativity. The Living Nativity will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Guests can walk through 13 indoor and outdoor scenes depicting the story of Christmas. At the Jersey Shore

  • A holiday tradition returns to Wildwood this weekend as the Wildwoods Family Holiday Celebration takes place at the Wildwoods Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Families can enjoy holiday-themed crafters, photos with Santa, entertainment and more. A tree lighting will be held at 4:30 p.m. to cap off the day. The event is free to attend.   • The holidays will arrive in Ventnor City on Saturday, as Ventnor will host its annual Holiday Parade. The parade kicks off at 5 p.m. on Ventnor Avenue and includes more than 60 units and three marching bands. The parade will end at the firehouse at New Haven Avenue, where Santa will greet children. In Philadelphia

· Runners will converge on Manayunk Saturday morning for the fourth annual Rudolph Run. The run begins at 9 a.m. at Philadelphia Runner on Main Street with check in beginning at 8:15 a.m. The run will traverse three miles along the Manayunk Canal. Holiday attire, including lights, reindeer antlers, red noses, ugly Christmas sweaters and more are encouraged. The only cost to join the run is the donation of a canned or non-perishable food item to the North Light Community Center’s food cupboard. In exchange for each donation, participants will receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win a gift basket filled with items and gift cards from local Manayunk businesses. · The Gershman Y will host its 15th annual Latkepalooza on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The celebration of the potato pancake will feature a selection of latkes with diverse flavors from Philadelphia’s top restaurants, local entertainment and hands-on activities. This year’s event features a tasting menu, with each general admission featuring one latke ticket per vendor. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for kids 2 to 12.
