Free coffee and ‘cheers’ to school staffers

As the new school year approaches, companies like Barnes and Noble, Apple, Google and Costco are stepping up with promotions to support school staffers.

Among them is Wawa, which will make life a little sweeter with its Cheers to Classrooms initiative. From now through Sept. 30, the convenience store chain will offer teachers and other school employees free hot coffee and fountain drinks daily in New Jersey, Delaware and its other mid-Atlantic locations.

The promotion is designed to show appreciation for those who play a crucial role in children’s education. To take advantage of the offer, educators simply need to visit a Wawa, inform the cashier they work at a school and present a school ID.

“Wawa is making a remarkable gesture by easing the financial burden on teachers and staff,” said Camden County teacher Shaniele Brown. “A simple act of kindness can make a lasting impact.”

In addition to the free coffee deal, Wawa is extending its support to educators with a $50,000 matching fund to benefit schools and teachers. The latter can submit class projects on DonorsChoose, and schools that meet Wawa’s criteria can receive matching funds to double the impact of those projects.

Wawa representatives will also visit local schools this fall to welcome teachers back into the classroom.

“Logically speaking, teachers are the backbone of our communities,” said Brown. “They educate the future generations who will become teachers, doctors, lawyers, engineers and more. Initiatives like these remind educators that they are a vital part of society.”
