Deptford is set to host its annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the township-owned Andaloro Farm.
The free, six-hour festival is expected to be one of the largest events of the year, with thousands expected.
“The fall festival is one of the town’s biggest events of the year,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “We’ll have probably 2,000 people coming in and out. It gets packed as it kicks off the fall season in Deptford, and a lot of people love it.”
To alleviate parking concerns – the festival area sits in a private neighborhood – buses will be available from Stauffer Fields on Montague Lane to take people to and from the farm. The event will feature hayrides throughout to give attendees a brief tour of the farm’s 39 acres of land.
“Not a lot of towns can say that they own a farm,” Medany noted.”The fall festival lets us show off the township-owned farm.”
A small play area will be set up for kids, who will also have the chance to pick out a pumpkin. Live music will be provided by a band and a DJ, and there will be games for children and adults alike.
The South Jersey American History Museum across the street from the farm will be open without an admission fee. The facility offers a look into pre-Colombian and Colonial life in the region.
The fall festival will also have vendors’ tables representing organizations and local businesses with products to sell. Hours are 1 to 7 p.m. Officials expected to attend are council members; Police Chief Joseph Smith; township administrators; and members of the Deptford Parks and Recreation Department, who help organize the event.
“Everyone is involved in it,” Medany noted of the event. “Our folks do a fantastic job with setting everything up.”
