Cherry Hill East girls’ relay team breaks school record at Woodbury Relays

At the 44th annual Woodbury Relays the Cherry Hill High School East girls’ 4×200 meter relay team finished second behind Rancocas Valley. The East relay team was led by a trio of sophomores Danielle Allen, Star Beasley, Giavanna Roberson and anchored by junior Chelsey James. Their time of 1:49.66 set a new school record eclipsing the time of 1:51.5 set ten years ago in 2006 by Maddie Cattuna, Amanda O’Mara, Tori Rossi and Meghan Marro.

Cherry Hill East also pointed in the distance medley relay and sprint medley relay. In the DMR was freshman Dani Lazarus (1200m), Allen (400m), juniors Alexa Happ (800m) and Taegan Fields (1600m). The SMR featured Allen (400m), Beasley (200m), senior Jessica Bryant (200m) and Happ (800m). Overall in division four, the Cherry Hill East girls placed eighth out of thirteen teams.

The season opened with two dual meets. The first was an impressive home win, 95–35, over Washington Township. In a dual meet teams are awarded five points for first place; three points for second place and one point for third place. Bryant won three events — the long jump, triple jump and 100m sprint. Senior Bianca Christophe won two events — the 400m intermediate hurdles and the 100m high hurdles. Beasley pointed in three events — the 100m, 200m and won the high jump. Allen pointed in two events — 100m and won the 200m. Junior Dayho Coleman pointed in two events — javelin and won the shot put. Sophomore Kiana Hollingsworth pointed in both the long jump and triple jump. Cherry Hill East swept a number of events including the long jump, 100m, 100m high hurdles, 200m, 3200m and javelin.

The second dual meet was a heartbreaking, 77–63 loss to Lenape, which is annually one of the stronger teams in their Olympic Conference division and whom Cherry Hill East has not beaten in years. An 8-point swing and the Cougars could have ended that string. Cherry Hill East had a number of strong performances but won only five of the fifteen individual events including Christophe (100m high hurdles), Bryant (long jump and triple jump), sophomore Analisa Groble (javelin) and James (high jump). Cherry Hill East also won the 4x400m relay, which featured Allen, senior Jessica Smith, Christophe and Beasley. Cherry Hill East took second and third in a number of events, including the 1600m with two freshman Lazarus and Sarah Pierce; 100m with sophomores Allen and Beasley and 3200m with Field and Pierce.
