Sherry Lynn and band rock a summer night

Music fans gathered at Veterans Park in Gloucester Township on July 15 for a show in the Sounds of the Summer concert series, events that are scheduled every Monday through Aug. 5.

Presented by the township and Mainstage Center for the Arts, the event featured singer-songwriter Sherry Lynn and the energetic Bar None Band. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Lynn’s performance drew on inspiration from country music legends such as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Reba McEntire.

Her musical journey began in 2008 with the release of her debut album, “Lucky in Love,” which gained attention with hit singles “What a Day to Shake a Heartache” and “Girls Will Be Girls.” Lynn’s subsequent release, 2013’s “A Beautiful Life,” solidified her reputation as a rising star in country music.

Accompanied by Bar None – known as one of South Jersey’s premier cover bands – Lynn performed both country classics and original hits, bringing the audience at times to its feet. The free concert began at 7 p.m. and community members brought their own lawn chairs.

For those who missed the event, the township continues to host a variety of summer concerts and other events. Follow its social media and Mainstage Center for the Arts for upcoming performances and events.

Other shows in the Monday-night summer series include:

July 22: Zach Taglioli and the great American songbook

July 29: Harmony and Encore show choirs

Aug. 5: Singer-songwriter Payton Taylor
