Two area students were named two of four scholarship recipients by a health-care union that represents 5,000 nurses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Ariana Tabamo of Williamstown received the Barbara Crosby Scholarship, awarded to JNESO District Council 1 IUOE-AFL-CIO members’ spouses or children to advance education in health care. She is a nursing student at the College of New Jersey who will graduate in 2027.Â
“I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to personally helping people, and nursing was the option that appealed to my interest in science,” she noted. “I think that nursing is a very noble career to get into because of the difference a good nurse makes in people’s lives.”
David Lambert of Medford earned the Virginia Treacy Scholarship, awarded to union members, their spouses, or children advancing the principles and values of the labor movement and the importance of unions. He is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at Rutgers University.
“I aspire to be a (research and development) mechanical engineer working on robotics in the space industry,” Lambert said. “When I was in high school, I joined the school’s robotics team and found my passion for mechanical design. I want to continue to explore the field in areas where innovation is at its peak – in space.”
The scholarships were formally awarded on April 16 as part of Education Day, JNESO’s ongoing commitment to make sure nurses have access to the latest information and training.Â
