‘I feel relaxed when I swim’

Cinnaminson youngster won nine gold medals and one silver medal in the Middle Atlantic 10 and Under Swimming Championships in March

At 4 months old, Marco Nicoletti started swimming with his dad in a baby swim class.

Fast forward eight years later, Nicoletti, who lives in Cinnaminson, recently won nine gold medals and one silver medal in the Middle Atlantic 10 and Under Swimming Championships at Gloucester County Institute of Technology’s Aquatics Center hosted by the Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Center.

“My races were in the freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and individual medley (IM), which is a lap of all four strokes,” he explained.

Nicoletti won gold in the 50-meter backstroke, 25-meter backstroke, 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter IM, 25-meter butterfly, 25-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, the mixed 200-meter freestyle and the mixed 200-meter medley relay.

Out of all the swim strokes, Nicoletti enjoys freestyle. He practices every day at the Mt. Laurel YMCA for one to two hours.

Currently he is looking for a team that competes with USA swimming year-round because, as he puts it, “I love big meets.”

“I feel relaxed when I swim and I love to compete and swim fast,” Nicoletti said.

Nicoletti has dual American/Italian citizenship and travels to Italy twice a year, training in pools in Rome and in the south of Italy. He also plays tennis, runs track and does gymnastics. He speaks Italian and Mandarin and enjoys traveling, cooking, riding his scooter and spending time with family.
