Police golf outing will benefit K-9 unit

Registration is currently open for the July event.

The Mantua police department will host its first K-9 golf outing at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at Pitman Golf Course.

The event will raise funds for the police department’s K-9 unit and was organized by officer Matthew Germscheid.

“The Mantua Township Police Department K9 unit is primarily funded by donations made to
the K-9 unit,” he said. “Without the generous support of the community, the K-9 unit would not be able to operate effectively and provide the support the residents of Mantua and Wenonah deserve.”

Mantua’s department has also policed Wenonah since 2018, according to the former’s website.

“Funds raised during the golf outing and other fundraisers are used to ensure each K-9 unit has the proper medical care it needs: food for the dogs, proper training for the K-9 handler and the dog, as well as other daily needs to ensure each K-9 team can perform its jobs as effectively as possible,” Germscheid explained.

Golf play will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start, where golfers all begin at the same time but on different holes through the course. A buffet-style dinner for the event will be served at 6 p.m. at Bogey’s, the golf course restaurant.

To Germschied, the golf outing does more than just raise funds.

“The golf event will be a great way for the Mantua Township Police Department to network with other agencies and K-9 units,” he noted, “as well as a great opportunity to meet the community and build relationships with them.”

Registration or the golf outing is open at online through a link on the department’s Facebook page. Pricing for the event can be found on the registration form.

“Without the support of the community,” said Germscheid, “this (unit) would not be possible. And we are greatly appreciative of their support.”
