Monroe Township Office of Emergency Management coordinated with local, county, and state officials throughout the overnight March 7 and early morning hours of March 8 during fire suppression efforts and during the demolition of a large commercial structure that caught fire on Sykes Lane. The multi-alarm fire brought in fire companies from multiple counties to aid in the firefight. Air monitoring was conducted by Gloucester County HazMat and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
Two men were seriously injured during a collision at 6:22 p.m. March 6. A 25-year-old resident in a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee was backing from a residence onto Coles Mill Road when it was struck by an unregistered dirt bike/motorcycle. The dirt bike was not equipped with a headlight and the operator – a 19-year-old – was not wearing a helmet. The impact with the Jeep caused the operator of the motorcycle to be ejected onto Coles Mill Road. While the driver of the Jeep attended to the motorcycle operator, the front right side of a 2015 Toyota Prius – driven by a 28-year-old Mays Landing man – contacted both pedestrians in the roadway. The driver of the Jeep and the motorcycle were transported to Cooper Hospital with serious injuries.
A 20-year-old Williamstown man was charged March 6 with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, and possession of a high capacity magazine after an investigation of shots fired in the area of Lake Avenue and N. Black Horse Pike on Feb. 18. It was determined that no injuries occurred as a result of the shooting.
