Possible hit and run at park under investigation

A 24-year-old man is recovering at Cooper Hospital after he was discovered bleeding in a vehicle at Gloucester Township Community Park in Erial on Feb. 19 in what police believe was the result of a hit and run.

First responders from the township and Inspira responded to the scene at about 3 p.m. A preliminary investigation suggested the victim either fell off the hood of a moving vehicle or was struck by the vehicle following a verbal altercation, according to township police Lt. Paul Fisher. A medivac unit transported him to Cooper.

An active investigation into the incident continues, said Fisher.

“I was advised that the victim did improve and it currently appears that he may make a full recovery,” he added. “Our traffic services division and detectives are following up on a few leads … and (we) did not positively identify or charge anyone yet.”

Police did provide details on the suspected vehicle, based on the work of a crash investigation team. It is described as a dark gray or dark-colored four-door sedan that fled the scene. Where it ended up is unknown, Fisher said.

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

“I would advise a witness to an event like this to immediately call the police as soon as possible and try to provide the location, then as much description of the vehicles and people involved, a license plate if possible, and direction of travel,” Fisher noted.

“Cell phone pictures can also be very helpful in an investigation like this as well,” he added. “We appreciate and encourage any tips and information related to this or any active investigation.”
