Student struck by vehicle at bus stop

A 15-year-old student at the Camden County Technical School in Gloucester Township sustained serious injuries after she was hit by a car on Jan. 18 while crossing the roadway to board her school bus.

The accident was reported at about 6:30 a.m., police said, at the intersection of Hickstown Road and Heatherwood Drive. A preliminary investigation showed that the student’s bus was at a complete stop picking up passengers as the victim – who was not identified because she’s a minor – attempted to cross the westbound lane of Hickstown Road from Heatherwood Drive.

The student was then struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Hickstown whose driver failed to stop for the bus. The driver remained at the scene and no one else was hurt.

Hickstown Road was closed for approximately two-and-a-half hours as police investigated the accident. The student was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden, where she was listed in critical condition.
