Berlin Community School Basketball Coach Takes Local Kids to Wells Fargo Center for Unforgettable Experience

Berlin boys' basketball team spends a day on Sixers' turf

The head boys’ basketball coach at Berlin Community School orchestrated a day for some township youth at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Jan. 15, bringing together 40 kids from different skill levels for what was described as a unique basketball experience.

Terry Myers – also a local entrepreneur and photographer – took on the role of coach at BCS two years ago after a longtime friend stepped down. Under his guidance, the boys’ team has become a two-time champion and is now in pursuit of a third consecutive title.

“My goal is to give back to this beautiful town that has shown me nothing but love,” said Myers, adding that he’s committed to both the community of Berlin and its youth.

The Philadelphia visit stemmed from the initiative Grow Together, which Myers wants to bridge the gap between business owners, media outlets and kids he has coached over the years. The Wells Fargo day was an opportunity for the boys to play on the same floor as the Philadelphia 76ers and have their story told on Fox 29 TV’s “Good Day Philadelphia.”

Myers shared his motivation for the event, saying, “As a kid, someone brought me to my first NBA game. All I can hope is to pay it forward and leave great lasting impressions on these kids.

“I believe that playing in a professional arena boosts the confidence of young players and fuels their dreams for the future,” he added.

Mayor Rick Miller praised Myers for his dedication to the community.

“Terry has been a valuable asset to Berlin, not only as a coach, but as a community leader,” Miller noted. “His efforts to bring together different elements for the benefit of our youth are commendable.”

The parents of student Jeremy Snock – Jenna and Bob – also expressed gratitude for Myers’ contributions to their children’s development.

“Eight years ago, our son … started training with Terry Myers through the Berlin Community School’s CER program,” they recalled. “One of the most enthusiastic, skilled, and effective coaches we have come across, Terry instilled in him the importance of a good work ethic and a passion for the sport of basketball.”

Student Jackson Phillips shared his enthusiasm for the Wells Fargo event.

“If you ever get this opportunity, trust me, it’s worth it,” he said. “This will be a memory I will never forget.”

The success of this event has already sparked plans for future initiatives, with Terry Myers expressing his eagerness to organize more events that benefit the Berlin community. The collaboration between local sponsors, the Sixers organization, and the Wells Fargo Center has proven instrumental in making these experiences possible for the youth of Berlin.
