Weekly Roundup: Cherry Hill West seniors become Virtua’s first high school interns

Another Cherry Hill West student received a huge honor last month after winning a national play writing competition.

A group of Cherry Hill High School West seniors got to experience a brand new program at Virtua Health Systems this year, while a Cherry Hill West sophomore made her name known after winning a nationwide playwriting competition. Cherry Hill West seniors dive into the world of health care at Virtua

Ten seniors at Cherry Hill High School West got to take part in a brand new program this school year. The seniors became Virtua Health System’s first high school interns. For eight months, the students participated in 10 different rotations at Virtua’s facilities. The student’s also got to work in the Virtua’s simulation Learning Lab.

Cherry Hill West playwright pens competition-winning script

Cherry Hill West sophomore Brie Leftwich has always had a love for play writing. This year, she entered Sacred Heart University’s first-ever National Playwriting Competition for the chance to have her script workshopped during a summer program at the college. Leftwich was selected as one of two winners.

Relay for Life of Camden County set for June 10 at Veterans Memorial Park in Gloucester Twp.

Each year, approximately 1.7 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer. This is a statistic that hits home for a number of South Jersey residents who have loved ones inflicted with the disease. Many of these residents will join cancer survivors and family members at the 2017 Relay for Life of Camden County. The relay is scheduled for Saturday, June 10, at Veterans Memorial Park in Gloucester Twp.

Super Cherry Hill speller preparing for second trip to Scripps National Spelling Bee

Last year, Cherry Hill’s Shruthika Padhy exceeded expectations as she finished in 22nd place in her first trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. Now, Shruthika is hoping to improve on last year’s performance as she prepares to participate in the competition for the second time. Shruthika qualified after winning the spelling bee title at Rosa International Middle School earlier this year.

Free fruit for kids program kicks off at Cherry Hill ShopRite stores

Kids in Cherry Hill can now receive a free healthy snack at either of the two Cherry Hill ShopRite locations. On Wednesday, ShopRite announced it was expanding its free fruit for kids program to ShopRite of Evesham Road as well as the ShopRite of Garden State Pavilion in Cherry Hill. Kids 12 and younger can receive a free piece of fruit in the store’s produce section when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
