American Legion Post 452 will host a Veterans Day 5K/1-mile run on Saturday, Nov. 11, beginning at its main building, 141 North Main St.
This is the eighth annual post run and it will have competitors take off at 9 a.m. and end up back where they start. The event is sponsored by the Mullica Hill Rotary Club and is open to walkers and joggers of all ages, as well as dogs and kids.
Pre-registration is currently available online at RunSignUp.com but is not mandatory. Those who do sign up before the day of the event will receive an exclusive T-shirt, prices for which are available at the website. There is a discount for veterans, active military members and youth 17 and under.
Registration is also available on race day beginning at 8 a.m. The course will take runners and walkers through Colson Road and William Wilt Soccer Complex and loop back to the post. An awards ceremony will take place inside the legion hall, where food and beverages will also be provided.
Proceeds from this race/walk benefit the post’s charitable programs to help veterans.
“The American Legion Post 452 is an important contributor to our community and provides
resources and assistance to veterans and active military,” said a representative.
The post has donated almost $10,000 to 25 charities, including Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Hoagies 4 Hope, Boys State, G2 Benefit Foundation, ALS Association, Homes For Our Troops, People for People, the Harrison Township police and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The post both hosts events and provides a venue for others groups, including the Jackie Rizzo Cancer Society fundraiser, the Hogs and Heroes Foundation fundraiser for township K-9 Dunkin’ and the Paul Michael Donahue Memorial Foundation for mental-health awareness and suicide prevention.
“Our leadership remains committed to investing in the post in an effort to increase membership and expand our outreach to local veterans,” noted post Commander Jack Sommer.
