Boos, brews – and witches

Rancocas Woods business group hosts annual Halloween event on Friday the 13th

The Rancocas Woods Business Association hosted its fourth annual Boos and Brews – Witches’ Market on Creek Road in Mount Laurel on Friday, the 13th.

On a night with a chill in the air and an unexpected crowd, the event was a frighteningly good time. A chance of rain did not deter attendees, and organizer Mariel Giletto had to catch her breath looking at the “crazy long” beer garden line.

The turnout was by far “the biggest” Giletto has seen so far, she said.

“We didn’t expect this turnout as we originally thought it was going to be raining,” Giletto acknowledged. “However, it was Friday the 13th and it turned out to be really nice.”

Boos and Brews – Witches Market featured not only a beer garden but pop-up tables, tarot readings, food trucks and a costume contest among among babies, groups and even four-legged friends.

Third place want to an “alien” abducting a boy. In second place was a group dressed as the cast of PBS’ “Sesame Street.” And first place -with a Wegmans gift card -went to a father-son duo dressed as David S. Pumpkins, the “Saturday Night Live” character played by actor Tom Hanks.

Giletto is already looking forward to planning next year’s event.

“I am so glad we can have a very safe and enjoyable experience for Mount Laurel,” she enthused. “I am just so appreciative of the community for all of the support.”
