Trunk or treat planned for Chestnut Branch Park

Kids who attend can wear costumes as they collect candy

The Mantua school district’s Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) and the township fire department will sponsor this year’s trunk or treat at Chestnut Branch Park on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The event – in the park’s lower level parking lot – was announced by school Superintendent Christine Trampe on Facebook. Firefighters and school district employees alike are expected to attend.

“Parents, teachers, businesses, families, groups or individuals are welcome to host a trunk, or donate candy,” she said.

The hosts’ partnership came about after each expressed interest in hosting a special Halloween activitiy that involves trick or treating.

“The schools wanted to host and I mentioned that the fire department was going to bring back the truck or treat,” said firefighter Victor Torino. “We both just partnered up and are doing one event.

“We’re still working on the finer details of what we will have there and and what not,” he added. “It’s similar to the truck-or-treat event we did a few years ago, but this year, we just teamed up with the schools.”

Since the event centers on Halloween, kids are invited to wear their costumes as they collect candy before the holiday. While they are not required to register, those who want to donate candy or host a “trunk” with their own candy must fill out a registration form through Google Docs. Students in the district will also receive a copy of the flyer.

The document can also be accessed by checking out the comment section for the announcement post. Forms are due by Monday. The form requires the name of an individual, family group or businesses planning to attend, as well as a phone number and email address. Registrants should also indicate whether they are hosting a trunk or dropping off candy; hosts must provide candy to kids at the event.

Those dropping off candy can choose from one of four locations: Sewell Elementary School at 40 McNally Drive, Sewell; Centre City Elementary School, 301 Columbus Drive, Mantua; J. Mason Tomlin Elementary at 393 Main St., Mantua; or the Sewell firehouse at 155 Union Ave.
