Monsoon, a fine dining Indian restaurant in Cherry Hill, will celebrate Diwali on Saturday, Oct. 21 with a special dance demonstration by Nadia Nalini Neubert, a classically-trained Odissi dancer who won the title of Mrs. Bollywood USA in a recent competition this past March in Houston, Texas. The celebration will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the patio of Monsoon’s Cherry Hill location,1409 Route 70 East in the Barclay Farm Shopping Center. Under a tent, families are invited to participate in Bollywood dancing demonstrations starting at 12:30 pm with Nadia Neubert and another Bollywood dancer Alana Valenzuela, a fellow licensed Zumba fitness instructor who teaches with Neubert. Youngsters are encouraged to join in to learn how to dance with scarves in this elegant and traditional art form. There will also be Rangoli Diya Painting, face painting, henna tattoos, music and food samplings.

Diwali is India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects them from spiritual darkness. This festival is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians.

The Saturday event is free and open to the public and a lunch buffet of $10.95 will be offered during that time both inside and on the patio. For more information email [email protected] or call (856) 528–2526.
