Resources from New Jersey Forest Fire Service continue to work the Dragway wildfire incident in the woods between Atco Dragway and Shamong Township, according to John Lyons, emergency management coordinator for Shamong Township.
Some pertinent updates as of midday Aug. 22:
- Jackson Road continues to be closed at Atsion Road intersection through at least midday tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 23.
- Smoke conditions and first responder activity require the road to be kept closed for safety considerations.
- Fire is approximately 1,600 acres with 85% containment. Crews continue to strengthen containment lines and monitor the fire.
- There is no threat to life or property in Shamong Township.
- Your township emergency responders will continue to monitor this incident closely and post updates periodically.
