Beginning in August, Gloucester Township kids will be able to participate in children’s yoga and mindfulness classes at Harwan Park.
Township teacher and certified yoga instructor Jennifer Minnick will lead the Tuesday classes – Aug. 1, 8,15 and 22 – alongside a former student of hers from Anne A. Mullen in Sicklerville. Minnick has been a teacher for 25 years and also has an after-school yoga program for students.
The free sessions are designed for ages 3 to 9. Minnick requests small donations to keep the classes going. Along with basic yoga techniques, participants will be able to listen to music, play games, and work on art projects.
“The business I just started officially last month is Little Blossoms Mindfulness and Yoga,” Minnick explained. “It’s life coaching, yoga, and reflexology. This (classes at Harwan) is going to be the first event I do with kids in the community.”
Minnick wants her after-school program to branch out into the community and hopes Little Blossoms will be an extension of the work she does with Mullen students. She also would like to expand the sessions into different areas of the township.
“I’m going to have several events in the fall that run throughout the area. A ‘Pumpkin and Poses’, I’m also going to try to make themes for the season. All of them i’m planning on making donation based so we’re going to see how the first series of events goes,” said Minnick.
In terms of donations for the August classes Minnick is asking for a ‘pay what you can’. Donations of $5 or $10 are happily accepted as anything helps.
“I’m going to see how this goes, the first series of classes.”
Each class will begin at 10:30 a.m. and be limited to 15 people. To register and secure a spot, call (856) 246-8136. Visit the township Facebook page for more information as classes get closer.
