Harrison Township police have updated their website with a new look and interface that will help ease access for residents and make it easier to report tips and sign up for alerts, among other new features.
The new site was first presented to officials and the public at a township committee meeting on June 20.
“It’s really going to improve the community interaction (with police),” said Chief Ronald Cundey. “There (are) bar codes here at the municipal building and in my (department) building where people can click to sign up for different alerts (and) ask an officer where we can interact anonymously with the residents. There’s a special needs registry (and) they can do any internal affairs and operations that need to be done.
“We are the first (department) in Gloucester County to have this,” he added. “A lot of Cumberland County is on it. A lot of Camden County is on it. Through the chief’s association, we’re going to try and get the whole county in on this.”
The website was updated by the same individuals who worked on the main township website, CommUnity Partners. The new site also includes community pages that provide links and more information on safe trade spots, an RX drop box, internal affairs reporting, temporary handicap placards and firearm applications.
A major part of the update is the addition of a community interface where residents who subscribe can hear about topics concerning the police department and public safety and get notifications about them by email. There are also links to news, new and old press releases, information on registering a home or business and an incident blotter, among other features.
“Right now, our goal is to just get as much contact and get people to sign up for it and they hopefully like what they see,” Cundey noted. “The nice thing about this is, we can make changes to this website and the change will take effect as soon as I hit the save button.”
“It’s pretty amazing,” Mayor Louis Manzo said of the revamped site. “We want to continue to put it out there, because this is awesome.”
