The Lions of New Jersey will host its Lions Flight for Sight – a family-centered hot-air balloon festival – at Flying W Airport June 16-18.
The event is organized by the Lions, a service organization that collects and donates used eyeglasses to those with sight issues. It will begin at 3 p.m. Friday and close at the same time on Sunday. The airport is located at 60 Fostertown Road in Medford.
Balloon rides begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 16. The first ride on Saturday, June 17, begins at 6 a.m. Local bands and musicians will be on hand, along with food trucks and other vendors. Activities will include face painting and an exclusive kids’ zone, according to Lions’ Council Chair Bob Friedel and State Advisor Dawn Marie Kosobucki. Country music’s George Becker will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 17.
Guests are urged to bring used eyeglasses for the Lions of New Jersey Eyeglasses Recycling Center, and unused and unexpired food cans for the local food pantry. The Lions will also host a walk Saturday to raise awareness of juvenile diabetes.

The Lions group is the largest of its kind in the world, with more than 1.4 million members. They have served New Jersey since 1920, when the first Lions Club was chartered in Camden. They were also on the ground supporting relief efforts during and after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
