Clearview honors student work in STEAM Showcase

Event showcases tech-minded students in Clearview district

Township of Harrison. Clearview High accomplishments included a robotics team win in the Inspire and Think awards and the math league’s county win in the NJ Math League Competition.

The Clearview school district hosted its annual showcase at the high school on June 6 to highlight the year-round work of STEAM students in grades seven to 12.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) is also known by its former name, STEM. The school event included hands-on demonstrations, information tables, STEM activities with students and family volunteers and corporate sponsors.

The STEAM Showcase was hosted by one of the high-school’s robotics teams, 9848 GearView. Multiple gatherings took place throughout the school, including the gym, cafeteria and some classrooms. The event also honored the works of the AP Computer Science A; the math league; Anatomy I and II; and the National Art Honors Society, among others.

“It’s a place to gather and celebrate the things they (students) have done over the year,” said Clearview math teacher Anne Paoletti. “It’s a nice way to show off our hard work. It celebrates the successes of the different teams, like the robotics team.”

“The goal of the STEAM Showcase is to highlight all the innovative work our students created here at Clearview this year, as well as provide a public platform for our students to share work with the community,” said school Superintendent John Horchak III.

Some of Clearview High’s accomplishments during the year included 9848 GearView’s win in the Inspire and Think awards and qualifying for the state championship, and the math league’s county win in the NJ Math League Competition.

Residents from Mantua and Harrison Township – the two communities that comprise the Clearview district – were also on hand at the free showcase.

An amazing group of very talented students … presented last night at the Clearview Regional School District STEAM showcase,” a Harrison Facebook post read.

“Our community is blessed to be able to offer such a broad range of disciplines that prepares students for college and beyond. Thank you to the staff and faculty for supporting all of the programs offered.

“Full STEAM ahead.”
