Lawn chair concert series kicks off summer

Entertainment includes music, magic and storytelling

Moorestown’s summer evening lawn-chair concert series starts on Monday, June 5, and will continue through Monday, July 31, announced Amy Filippone, of the department of Parks and Recreation.

There will be no concerts on Monday, July 3. Concerts are free and family friendly. A 30-minute, child-focused entertainment segment will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the main stage concert at 7:15 p.m.

The first two concerts (Monday, June 5 and Monday, June 12) will be on the lawn at Perkins Center for the Arts. Beverly Pugh Corry, a Perkins staff member, will be performing for the children on both dates. The main stage will be rocking on June 5 with George Bittner’s band All Tuned Up, and on June 12, Vinyl Comes Alive with Mike Wesner. 

The remaining concerts will be on the lawn of the Community House. Concerts will be rescheduled if it rains.

Monday, June 19 – librarians Jen Dunne and Ashley Hoffman will delight with storytelling, followed by Kyrus Keenan Westcott.

Monday, June 26 – Ventriloquist, Wagstaff & Co., followed by Opus Soul, an eclectic mix of blues, funk, jazz and rock with modern renditions of early R&B, Little Feat, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.

Monday, July 10 – Puppets Pizazz, followed by Trophy Husbands.

Monday, July 17 – Jim Gavin’s Key to Awesome Music, followed by the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey. This 42-member (mostly music teachers), dynamic woodwind, brass and percussion ensemble has a diverse repertoire – from classical wind band compositions to Broadway, jazz and pop idioms.

Monday, July 24 – Magician Brian Richards, followed by Abe Speller & Sundad. This highly accomplished world fusion, acoustic band weaves many influences (Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Spanish and African) into beautiful rhythms and harmonies.

Monday, July 31 – The Paisley Pickle, followed by the Golden Eagle Community Band.
