The Haddonfield commissioners discussed potential changes to various measures at a recent work session and introduced a $2.6-million bond ordinance on first reading.
At a previous session, the commissioners began the process of repealing a shade tree ordinance adopted in June that concerned various guidelines.
“What we’re doing here is, instead of the formula (for calculating costs for trees to be taken down) based on the diameter of the tree, this is based on realistic costs,” said Borough Administrator Sharon McCullough of potential ordinance updates.
“ … If you move forward with this ordinance, after it is adopted, we would pass a resolution and we could change that resolution as needed if we find out that costs change.”
Solicitor Salvatore Siciliano noted that another change in the ordinance is that it clarifies what happens when trees are unintentionally taken down. Any changes to the measure were neither approved nor introduced on first reading, but merely discussed for future consideration.
As for the bond ordinance, Solicitor Salvatore Siciliano explained that it was for the purchase of a building and was part of a public bid process, but could not comment further.
As the commissioners reviewed and approved event permits, Mayor Colleen Bianco Bezich also put out a call out for volunteers to help keep beloved events alive.
“If you want things like the Santa parade or tree lighting and the Yankee Doodle Doo party to continue, volunteer,” she urged. “There’s a signup genius form that you can volunteer at.”
