Converge Church in Moorestown invites the community to attend its Easter Jam celebration on Saturday, April 1.
“We do an interactive story of Easter where the kids walk through and they have egg-tellers, and the egg tellers each tell a part of the story of Easter from Palm Sunday leading up to (Christ’s) Resurrection,” said Kitty Bowen, children’s ministry director for the church.
There will also be craft time, games and an egg hunt.
“We have a selfie station that they can take with their family,” Bowen said. “We also have a free breakfast. Last year, we had some hot foods and everybody loved that.”
Members of the congregation are helping with Easter Jam, as are township students. Bowen is hopeful that other high-school students who need community service hours will consider volunteering for the egg hunt.
“We always need lots of help,” she noted. “I have 25 (volunteers) from our church, but I’m always looking for more help.”
Now in its second year, Bowen plans to make the Easter Jam special for Moorestown families.
“… This year, I have a lot more confidence in what we did last year, and I think it’s going to be really good,” she explained. “(It’s) a great family event if people are looking for something to do with their children, and it’s a great free event for them to come to.”
Bowen sought to make the Easter event unique to everyone.
“ … That’s why we made this a very large event where we could focus on a lot of different things,” she said. “Focus on bringing family together – they’re playing games together, they’re doing crafts together …
“It’s just an all-encompassing event with a spiritual element to it.”
Bowen always enjoys meeting new families and teaching the meaning of Easter.
“Because we are a church and we have a certain emphasis, I just like being able to tell the kids the Easter story and then they can interact with it,” she pointed out. “We have all these egg storytellers, and some of them are really creative, and it’s just a lot of fun for the kids.”
Following Easter Jam, Converge will hold a Good Friday service on Friday, April 7, at 7 p.m., and an Easter Sunday service on Sunday, April 9, at 10 a.m.
“We have communion together, we have a short message and some singing,” Bowen said of the Good Friday service. “We’re looking forward to that.”
The Easter Jam will begin at 10 a.m. Registration is not required but encouraged through the church Facebook page.
“I’m just looking forward to meeting families, reaching out into the community,” Bowen said of the event. “ … A lot of families (are) moving in the area and maybe looking for a home church … Just that, just meeting families.”
