Fortnightly to feature ‘crabby’ guest speaker

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, professor and author Dr. Neeti Bathala will be the featured speaker the Evening Membership Department of The Haddon Fortnightly Guest Night.

Environmental science professor and author Dr. Neeti Bathala will speak at the Evening Membership Department of The Haddon Fortnightly Guest Night meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Haddon Fortnightly.

Bathala will discuss her recently published children’s book “Moonlight Crab Count.” Bathala works to make science accessible and fun for people of all ages. “Moonlight Crab Count” follows a young girl and her mother as they research horseshoe crabs on the beach at night as part of a citizen-science project.

Bathala will discuss the importance of the horseshoe crab species in the ocean environment and medical field. She will also discuss other citizen-science projects available in which the general public can contribute to scientific research by monitoring and reporting data on habitats and species such birds, bees and butterflies.
