Mullica Hill library raises funds with used book sale

Buyers can peruse the branch’s selections over two days

In order to help fund its events, the Mullica Hill library will again host a used book sale Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s put on by the Friends of the Gloucester County Library,” said Head of Circulation and Friends’ liaison Robin Megow, noting that the sale has been held for 20 years. “There are projected to be around 10,000 books for sale.”

The Friends have raised more than $50,000 for the county library system to improve services not just at the Mullica Hill branch but all those in the system. The group, which has been around since 1993, meets at the township branch on the fourth Monday of every month at 7 p.m.

As for the library’s sale, “We get quite a crowd,” said Megow. “They’re lining up on Saturday morning. I would say there will be around 400 people here on the first day, with a little less the next day. We get people from other counties and Pennsylvania hoping to find a treasure of a book.”

A variety of genres can be purchased, as well as regular and mass market paperbacks at 50 cents, hardbacks at $1.50 and children’s books at 25 cents. Along with adult and children’s titles, audio CDs and some DVDs will be available.

“The funds go towards events for the library, and they also help towards the subscription to Book Page magazine,” said Megow, referring to a publication used as a discovery tool for avid readers in search of the next great book across multiple genres.

Visitors can browse the library sale from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. No registration is required. For more information, contact Megow at (856) 223-6016 or email [email protected].
