Haddonfield Memorial High School Drama Club students are all smiles while rehearsing “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” opening Oct. 27
Haddonfield Memorial High School’s Drama Club will embrace its comedic side this week and expose audience members to a modern and unique take on classic fairy tale stories. This hysterical interpretation of familiar fairy tales is expected to leave the audience shocked, engaged and, most importantly, cracking up laughing.
The Drama Club will perform “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” written by Don Zolidis. Performances take place on Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m., in addition to Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. in the HMHS auditorium.
The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is a collaboration of familiar fairy tales and characters that intertwine in scandalous and humorous ways. It combines current concepts that comically connect with viewers of all ages.
“The humor is good for all ages because you have the pretty girls in the dresses so it’s visually pleasing, and then the adults are like, did she just say that?” senior Riley Crompton, the first narrator for the play, said.
“My favorite part of acting is making people laugh. That’s why when I first read the script, I genuinely loved the script. I was cracking up laughing just reading it on my phone in my bed alone. It’s not school humor, it’s actually funny.” senior Jimmy Atkinson, the second narrator for the play, added.
Although it is all laughs on the stage, the students and directors have been working to make this the most memorable play yet. This year’s fall production is anticipated to stand out from previous years due to its authentic and interactive experience with the audience.
“I think it is definitely the most unique play I have ever worked on just because there’s so many different aspects and you’re breaking the fourth wall and being communicative with the audience,” said senior Dakota Driscoll, who plays the girl and devil.
Students will also participate in dual roles and will be challenged to embrace a multitude of characters with colorful personalities. Each student has the freedom to add his or her personal touch to their characters.
“My favorite part about this play is the flexibility the actors have. It is fun to see them play multiple roles,” director Heather Vaughn said.
Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults at Haddonfield Memorial High School, located at 401 Kings Highway East. For more information, contact (856) 429–3960.
