The township will celebrate its history on Dec. 10 with four hours of holiday-themed house tours beginning at 3 p.m.

Businesses will host open houses as well as live music and other activities for patrons at about 2 p.m. The tours will be hosted by Farm House Design, a business that specializes in rustic home decor, and sponsored by Jeff Downs, an employment lawyer with his own firm.

“We try to focus on the historic homes in Mullica Hill,” said Hazel Dilsaver, owner of Farm House Design. “Some of the houses date back to the 1700s.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Holy Name of Jesus Church; Acenda Integrated Healthcare; and Whole Riches, a Camden nonprofit that assists families. The rest of the proceeds will benefit a local children’s charity.

“I hope that it gives people a good sense of the history of our town and the different periods of growth and architecture,” Dilsaver noted.

Some of the houses on the tour will feature pictures of how they looked in the past. The township itself was founded in 1701, making it older than the nation itself.

There will be 15 stops on the 47th annual tour, with nine private homes on display and two businesses that reside within older buildings. It is the first tour since 2019; COVID forced a two-year pause.

Dilsaver is coordinating and hosting the tour with assistance from volunteer Eileen Rothein, having done so for more than 20 years. She has also coordinated and hosted other community events, including the annual fall festival.

Tour guests are also asked to bring an unwrapped toy and/or nonperishable food item to be donated to charity.

“While they are enjoying the festivities,” Dilsaver noted, “they are contributing to giving someone a good Christmas.”
