The township high school’s baseball team will host the Spartans Baseball Golf Outing at Valleybrook Country Club in Blackwood on Nov. 6 to pay for improvements to the program.

“In years past, we tried to get some of the alumni together and figure out how to improve things, like the field,” said coach Dave Prager of the tournament. “We also try to bring together an event for the community to enjoy and to promote the players and coaches the best I can.”

Admission to the event is $125 per golfer. It will have a shotgun format that will not only speed the pace of the game, but also offer some competitive intrigue. A dinner for participants will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

The golf outing will be supported by sponsorships and donations from Deptford businesses. Funds raised will help pay for improvements to the high school’s baseball fields, among other goals.

“Some of the things we want to do is add a double bullpen for our pitchers to warm up in,” said Prager. “We also want to restructure the mounds and maintain the field.

“I want to do more positive things to increase morale and have more fun events in the future,” the coach added.

This is the second of the high school baseball team’s golf outings, with the last, according to Prager, happening before COVID. Along with being a fundraiser, the golf tournament is meant to serve as an alumni event for players from the team’s past.

The event will also kickstart a newsletter of sorts for Prager to post updates on upcoming events and report what past players have done since their time as Spartans.

The Spartans Baseball Golf Outing begins at noon. For more information, contact Prager at either his phone number, (856) 981-4763, or by team email at [email protected].
