Ground was broken Oct. 19 for the Lofts at Gloucester Township, a 28-acre site on Davistown Road that will be home to more than 300 apartments.
Assemblywoman Gabby Mosquera, Township Mayor David Mayer, Edgewood Properties CEO Jack Morris, Council President Orlando Mercado, Police Chief Dave Harkins and Senator Fred Madden were among those present.
Ground was broken Oct. 19 for the Lofts at Gloucester Township, a 28-acre site on Davistown Road that will be home to more than 300 apartments.
The township partnered with M&T Realty – an affiliate of Edgewood Properties – on the project, which will also include a hotel whose construction was inspired by expansions at county colleges, said state Sen. Fred Madden.
“If you look around at the growth not far from here, Rutgers University, Rowan University, Camden County College … They are just expanding year after year. With that influx of additional students, the people traveling here from North Jersey … need places to stay.”
Township Mayor David Mayer hopes the community will appreciate Edgewood Properties CEO Jack Morris and his investment in the township. Morris said the municipality has “welcomed him with open arms”.
“We are excited to welcome the Lofts at Gloucester Township to our municipality,” said Mayer. “Edgewood Properties has a longstanding reputation of building high-quality communities, and this project will continue our economic development vision of job creation combined with modern living spaces and commercial development.”
To avoid economic and infrastructure impact, Davistown Road is being widened and sewer improvements are being made. Edgewood Properties also provided extensive environmental remediation on municipal-owned properties that were part of the parcel.
Amenities at the Lofts include a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse, outdoor pool, cabana, business center and fitness center. Plans to create safe walking paths to Camden County College and the Gloucester Premium Outlets are also underway.
Assemblywoman Gabby Mosquera was also in attendance at the groundbreaking. A longtime public servant and resident, she is glad to see her hometown expanding with what is considered a valuable investment.
“Jack (Morris), thank you for investing in Gloucester Township,’’ she said. “Not only do I have the honor of representing Gloucester Township in the 4th legislative district, but I’m also a resident. This is my hometown. So when you have individuals like yourself investing in the town, that means our town is growing.”
Morris – a New Jersey resident who began his career as a bulldozer operator – joked that he wishes he could get the keys to one of the vehicles on site instead of addressing the public.
“I really don’t wanna be standing here, I wanna hop on one of those things,’’ he said, referring to a bulldozer on site. Then he remarked, “I can’t tell you how much it means to me to stand here.”
