Military history on display at flea market

Event will be hosted by township American Legion post

American Legion Post 452. The military flea market hosted by American Legion Post will raise funds for the organization as it shares its love of military history with the community.

To help out with the day-to-day operations, American Legion Post 452 in Mullica Hill will host a military flea market on Saturday.

The outdoor flea market, which will coincide with the post’s first annual American Legion car show, will offer guests the chance at not only glimpsing American military history but also owning it, and even trading it to spread that love for America’s military past together.

“(There will be) military items from the Civil War through to modern times,” said Dave Tinney, the event’s coordinator, “including both American and foreign uniforms, patches and medals, swords and knives, canteens, mess kits, web gear, photographs and ephemera and reenactment items as well.

“There will also be on display military vehicles, including Jeeps and troop carriers,” he added, “and this year we are introducing a vintage car show behind the American Legion on the grass field.”

Tinney anticipates a crowd of 100 to 125 people for the flea market, and about 25 to 30 dealers are expected to rent space for selling their wares. They will pay $20 to rent a 10-by-10-foot space, and $30 for two. The dealers are also expected to sell items that are 90 percent military related, though transfers of firearms will not be permitted.

According to Tinney, “100 percent” of the money raised from the event will go to the American Legion. That includes the post’s project fund to help make improvements to its main hall.

The military flea market is the last event of its kind this year, but one is expected around April 2023. Hours for Saturday’s event are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information, contact Tinney at (856) 278-2055 or email to [email protected].
