Burlington County distributes farmers market vouchers to eligible seniors

Vouchers are accepted at the Burlington County Farmers Market held each Saturday

The Burlington County Commissioners are reminding seniors of an upcoming deadline to obtain vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables sold at local farmers markets.

The deadline for county seniors to obtain the free vouchers is Sept. 30. All fresh produce vouchers must be redeemed at local farmers market by Nov. 30.

“More than 750 of our county’s seniors have already benefited from this voucher program, but we know there are more out there who may be eligible,” said Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson, the board’s liaison to the Department of Human Services and Office on Aging. “Time is running out, so we’re reminding eligible seniors to act now so they don’t miss out on the chance to obtain some free Jersey Fresh produce. It’s a great program for them and for our local farmers.”

To assist local seniors, the Burlington County Office of Aging is holding a special Farmers Market Voucher distribution event on Sept. 23 at the Burlington County Human Services Building, 795 Woodlane Road, Westampton. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. eligible seniors will be able to drive up and collect the free vouchers.

To be eligible, seniors must be 60 or older and residents of Burlington County with an annual income less than $25,142 for a single resident or less than $33,874 for a married couple. Residents who obtained vouchers already in 2022 are not eligible.

Applications are available from the Burlington County Office on Aging, which administers the program. To request an application, call 609-265-5069 or email [email protected]. No additional paperwork is needed.

Residents are advised to bring photo ID with them on Sept. 23 to collect their vouchers and married couples must both be present.

Vouchers are accepted at the Burlington County Farmers Market held each Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burlington County Agricultural Center, 500 Centerton Road, Moorestown. A list of the other markets where the vouchers are accepted is posted at https://www.co.burlington.nj.us/434/Aging

“We want all Burlington County residents to have access to nutritious foods, no matter their age or circumstances, and the farmers market voucher program is a proven way to get farm-fresh foods to seniors in need,” said Burlington County Commissioner Allison Eckel. “If you’re a senior who is eligible or know someone who might qualify, don’t delay. Call or email our Office on Aging to get an application now.”
