The Burlington County Animal Shelter is hosting a special end-of-summer bash to help find loving forever homes for the dogs and cats that reside there.
The Clear the Shelter Open House will be held on Aug. 27 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Burlington County Animal Shelter, 35 Academy Drive. The event will feature food trucks, music, games, crafts, information tables and more for the whole family, including friendly well-behaved pets on leashes.
The open house is being organized by Burlington County in partnership with the Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter to raise awareness about the shelter’s mission and connect dogs and cats with new loving families.
During the event, all adoption fees will be waived.
“The Burlington County Animal Shelter staff and volunteers do a great job caring for the dogs, cats and other animals at the shelter, but what these pets need most is a loving home of their own,” said Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson, the Board’s liaison to the shelter. “For people looking for a new pet, we want the Burlington County Animal Shelter to be your first and last stop and events like this one are a proven way to match residents with our shelter’s wonderful dogs and cats.”
More than 745 cats and 549 dogs have been adopted or reclaimed from the shelter this year, including close to 100 cats and 81 dogs during the month of July alone.
Among the shelter’s success stories was the adoption of Dash, a pit bull terrier who spent close to two years at the shelter before being adopted in May during a Lenape High School JROTC “Cadets Help Pets” event at the shelter.
Burlington City Police are also expected to visit with two of their K-9 dogs in training. Both dogs were once residents of the shelter.
“We’ve had some really heartwarming stories this year, but there are still plenty of dogs and cats who are waiting to become someone’s next best friend. This Saturday’s open house is a great way to meet them,” said Burlington County Commissioner Allison Eckel. “It’s going to be a fun-filled day with plenty of food, games and entertainment, plus a special crafts table for making toys for the shelter’s dogs and cats. We’re encouraging everyone to come out and enjoy the fun.”
